Oil on panel, View of Putney,from the Surrey side looking down river towards the bridge. This is the first Putney Bridge which was built in 1729 and taken down in 1886. Painted circa 1820.Hofland would have used the camera obscura technique in this painting. The detail and compactness of the composition would not be visible to the naked eye.
