James Dixon was a naive painter who lived on Tory Island in the Irish Sea. A colony of painters emerged there encouraged by the Irish painter Derek Hill.
James Dixon was the first to paint seriously, others followed suit including Patsy Dan Rodgers , Ruari Rodgers and Anton Meenan .
The Derek Hill collection which is on Tory Island has some of the most important paintings by the Tory Islanders.
