French landscape artist who also did Orientalist paintings. Lived most of his life in Paris , he was classified as a post Impressionist. His works often catches the effects of sunlight and water, reflecting a golden tone.
Rigolot exhibited at the Paris Salon for many years with considerable success. Rigolt also taught at the Academie Julian. In 1896 after a trip to Algeria , he began to paint Orientalist paintings, he became a member of their Society. He was however strongly influenced by the Barbizon School.
Nowadays Rigolot is best remembered for his sunlight landscapes with ponds and rivers. For these works he received the Legion d'Honneur in 1900 for his services to art. The same year he awarded a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle.
