Alan Uglow trained at the Central School of art, where he met David Hockney. He was part of the Young Contemporaries Group between 1960-1964 with David Hockney. In 1965 he had a solo exhibition at the Grabowski Gallery.
In 1968 he visited New York where he moved in 1969. He stayed there until his death. From his studio in the Bowery, Uglow produced work for many exhibitions in New York and had a long successful career.
This early work is very rare, showing influences of Winifred Nicholson ,Mary Potter and Ivon Hitchens.
