SOLD . Oil on card, signed and inscribed, 15 3/4 ins  x 11 1/2ins. George Telfer Bear was born in Greenock, he painted in oils , watercolours and pastel. His favourite subjects were figures, flowers, landscape and architectural studies. Trained at the Glasgow School of Art before moving to Canada. He returned to Scotland in 1906, got married and settled down to a successful career. He was friends with E A Hornel, C Oppenheimer , EA Taylor and Jessie Marion King. In 1931 he was one six artist who exhibited in Paris at Gallerie Georges Petit exhibition "Les Peintres Ecossais". He was a member of the Society of Eight where he was influenced by F C B Cadell. At this time he moved to Glasgow where he became an active member of the Arts Club. Exhibited 32 times at the RSA and 54 times at the Glasgow Institute. Had a long successful career, his work can now be seen in the Louvre, Glasgow , Greenock and Edinburgh Art Galleries.
