Description
Watercolour, 8 1/4ins X 12ins (17ins x 21ins) Born in London, the son of a bookseller, who returned to his hometown of Cumwhitton, Cumbria in 1820. William James Blacklock himself became an apprentice to a bookseller in London , where he lived for fourteen years. During this time he took up painting professionally and first exhibited at the RA in 1836 and continued to exhibit there until 1850. When he moved back to Cumwhitton for the rest of his life. Sadly his eyesight failed and he had to retire from painting. Blacklock was much admired for his Pre-Raphaelite style . His work showed the  same intensity and detail. Painting in oils and watercolours , his views were mostly of Cumbria and the lakes. This delicate watercolour of blue tones has been in a private collection for many years. Prov.
